Education

Teaching circularity where fashion starts.

The fastest way to reduce fashion waste is to design it out. We work inside design schools and high school classrooms so the next generation learns to start with what already exists. To date, our programs have reached more than 5,000 students.

Upcycle Workshop

A semester program embedded in a school's existing curriculum, delivered as half day or full day sessions. Students move from the basics of sustainability to building and presenting their own circular design. The program currently runs at Miami Fashion Institute at Miami Dade College.

Modules:

  1. What is sustainability?
  2. The current fashion model
  3. Fast fashion vs. slow fashion
  4. Building a sustainability strategy
  5. Designing for sustainability
  6. Case studies
  7. Textile innovation and new materials
  8. International certifications
  9. Student presentation

Deadstock Fabric Program

Brands donate deadstock fabric rolls or unsold merchandise, and students redesign it as part of their coursework. Brands keep product out of landfill and see what their materials can become. For 2026 we are especially looking for athleisure brands.

Upcycle Challenge

With Miami Dade College, high school designers create garments from donated textiles and compete for a full scholarship to Miami Fashion Institute.

The Upcycle Project Sustainability Award

Each year we present the Upcycle Project Sustainability Award at Miami Fashion Institute to a graduate whose work shows what circular design can be.
